Discover Spiro's Taverna Of St. Lucie West

If you’re craving authentic Greek food on Florida’s Treasure Coast, Spiro's Taverna Of St. Lucie West is the kind of place you walk into once and immediately add to your regular rotation. Tucked into the plaza at 1680 St Lucie W Blvd #107, Port St. Lucie, FL 34986, United States, this family-owned taverna brings the flavors of the Mediterranean straight to your table without any fuss or pretense.

The first time I visited, it was on a friend’s recommendation after a long workday. From the moment the warm pita hit the table, lightly brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with oregano, I knew this wasn’t your average diner-style stop. Greek cuisine has long been praised for its balance of fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and heart-healthy fats. In fact, according to research highlighted by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Mediterranean diet-rich in olive oil, fish, legumes, and herbs-is associated with lower rates of heart disease and improved longevity. You can taste that philosophy in nearly every dish here.

The menu is packed with classic staples: gyros carved fresh from the spit, tender souvlaki skewers, spanakopita with flaky phyllo dough, and creamy tzatziki made in-house. I’ve personally tried their lamb chops and grilled octopus on separate visits, and both stood out for their clean seasoning and careful preparation. The lamb was marinated overnight with garlic, lemon, and herbs-a traditional method that helps tenderize the meat while enhancing natural flavors. The octopus, charred just enough on the grill, had that perfect balance between smoky and tender, something that’s surprisingly hard to get right.

What makes this spot different from other local restaurants is the attention to authenticity. Greek tavernas traditionally focus on simple cooking techniques-grilling, roasting, and slow braising-rather than heavy sauces. Here, the pastitsio layers pasta, seasoned ground beef, and béchamel in a way that feels homemade. Even the Greek salad follows the traditional style, with chunky cucumbers, ripe tomatoes, red onions, Kalamata olives, and a generous slab of feta on top instead of crumbled bits. That detail matters.

Over the years, I’ve spoken with regulars who drive in from nearby neighborhoods just for their weekly fix of moussaka or chicken gyro platters. Many online reviews echo similar experiences, often highlighting consistent service and generous portions. In my own visits, the staff has always been quick to explain unfamiliar dishes and suggest pairings, whether it’s a glass of Greek wine or a strong cup of coffee to finish the meal.

From a nutritional standpoint, grilled items like souvlaki or seafood platters are solid choices if you’re looking for something lighter. The emphasis on olive oil instead of butter aligns with dietary recommendations from organizations like the American Heart Association, which supports replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats for better cardiovascular health. Of course, dishes like baklava are indulgent-but that sticky-sweet pastry layered with honey and walnuts is worth every bite when shared at the table.

Location-wise, being in St. Lucie West makes it accessible whether you’re heading home from work, catching up with friends, or planning a casual date night. Parking is easy, and the interior has that welcoming, neighborhood-restaurant vibe. It’s not flashy, and that’s part of its charm. The focus stays squarely on food and hospitality.

While I can’t claim to have sampled every single item on the menu, the consistency across multiple visits speaks volumes. In a dining landscape where trends change quickly, places like this succeed because they stick to tradition, quality ingredients, and attentive service. If you’re exploring Port St. Lucie’s restaurant scene and want something flavorful, filling, and rooted in genuine Greek cooking, this taverna delivers an experience that feels both comforting and memorable.

  • ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five Stars! From the moment my car pulled into the ample, convenient parking, I knew I was in for a delightful experience. The restaurant was impeccably clean, offering a serene and pleasant atmosphere that fostered relaxation and enjoyment. Every detail seemed thoughtfully attended to, creating an environment both welcoming and refined. The food itself was simply outstanding—culinary creations that delighted the palate and promised a return visit. A true gem that I would gladly revisit again and again. And then there’s Chris—calling him a waitress feels like a disservice. He is truly a super-host, someone who anticipates your needs and makes you feel completely at ease, while never losing sight of the purpose of your visit. His gracious attention elevated the entire experience. In full agreement with the owner’s sentiments, I wholeheartedly share in their confidence: this restaurant delivers excellence on every level. Warm regards, Dr Collazo

  • Absolutely delicious. We visited on a sunday and what a great time. Our server was very friendly and answered our questions about the menu. Food was out quick and super hot. My Pitta was piping hot for so long. My wife thought the falafel was delicious and the rice pilaf too. Will definitely be back!!!!

  • Excellent take out. I was pleasantly surprised by how good my food made it home. I generally do NOT like carry-out as the food is never as good. However, when I got home I found the food was excellently prepared and still hot. Thanks so much to Logan, whose food preparation is always on point. As well as Nicole who really makes Spiro’s a consistent and enjoyable dining experience, whichever location you choose.
